Yes. What type of piece were you thinking of?

The (so called) smooth rifles are often externally indistinguishable from their rifled brethren.

I know Green Mountain makes a .62 smoothbore barrel (or at least they used to).
Idaho PRB

Not sure fast handling fowler and full oct barrel goes together though. Think you'll find theres a reason fowlers are full round or oct/round barrels.

Yes indeed! Little things like balance, fast handling and ease of carrying.

yep about any of the barrel makers should do this for you.

Ok your right. I was only thinking looks and not handling. I could go for a full round barrel just not octagon to round. For some reason I just dont like that style barrel on any gun bp or centerfire.

Don't throw in the towel too fast...you didn't mention caliber/gauge...you didn't mention your physical size/strength, etc.

I have full octagon 33" GM flint amoothbore barrels in .54cal/.28ga and .62cal/.20ga.
The .20ga is a 1" barrel and the .28ga is a 5/16" barrel.

Fankly I don't find a problem swinging either of them on crows, doves, or trap targets...and the extra weight is actually a benefit to follow through...the 15/16" is an eyelash lighter and faster.

So depending on your physical size, the caliber and subsequent barrel diameter you might end up with, you might indeed be able to use a full octagon

My new .62 smoothy is a Green Mountain. Massive barrel (42"), but well balanced. Gunn

I am in the process of making a .58 smoothbore. It has a full octagon barrel. I used a old Montans barrel blank and tapered it. 1" at the breach to 13/16" at the muzzle. The barrel is 42" long. I made a jig to index it in and tapered it by hand with files. It is not hard to do, juat takes a little time. Being a machinest for 45 years helps. Having a milling machine would help but I am retired and don't have one. Where there is a will there is a way. ARE SO SOME SAY!

I really want to do an early Lancaster .54 smoothie 38" swamped

That would be the cats meow

I have a 42" getz swamped oct barrel on my virginia smoothrifle it balances well, but the differnce between the oct to round is noticable I think the oct breech is1 1/8"

Turkhunter,
I just sold a jeager I built many years ago. It was built around a Getz heavy jeager barrel. I had three barrels for it at one time. But I sold it with its 20 gauge smoothbore barrel on it, 31 inches long. I never had a sweeter handling gun. Labor day weekend I broke +20 clay birds and rabbits without a miss. They just couldn't fly or roll anything past me that didn't get shot to pieces, sometimes dust. So, yeah, go for it!

A .62 smooth rifle would be awesome but a fast handling fowler would be fine too.

I have a .62 fusil de chasse with a Getz 46" (octagon to round) swamped barrel, at 6.9 pounds, shoulders and handles like a dream.
