I'm looking at a Trade gun with a octagon to round Garner barrel. Any one have any experince with these barrels?

Thanks in Advance

I always like the looks of an octagon to round barrel, I would think that they are OK because the widest part (octagon) is at the breech area where you need more metal...

The larger bore of the trade gun will have a lower pressure than a smaller bores rifles and muskets using FFg, so it should be safe...

I never owned one, these are just my observation...

If that is Garner as in Jack Garner once of TVM I think they offered GM barrels or their own, I have never heard any thing bad about these barrels, I would guess they are 1" or 1 1/8" at the breech for a .62, this is where all the whoomp is, the long tapered tube just steers the ball.

I got one a year or so on sale, $100, and a maple blank $60, inletted for bbl and rod, cut almost to a precarve, I just did little more than round the edges. Used templates from Hansons tradegun sketchbook.Made a nice light cheep trade gun, Chambers round face lock $95. Good bbl, I should of bought several at that price, usually $125. The bbl will need some polishing work inside and out, but not much. Don

Had one of Jack Garders barrel oct.-round 20 ga. shot real good ,well made as all his goods are. He used to come to Ohio to buy nice maple blanks form the Amish here in North East Ohio. A nice guy and maker too!!
