Why are you trying to reinvent the wheel?

Peep Sights/Globe Sights/Ghost Sights are widely available.

And can be adapted to any muzzleloader barrel using dovetail slots.

If you wanted to retain the original sights on the rifle you may opt for an Eyepal or a Merit Optical type device (or variation thereof). They attach to your shooting glasses and serve the same purpose.

Many of the rear peep sights out there have removable eye pieces.

Take a look at the design at draw up a peep size that works for you and have a local machine shop make the peep to your specs.
