trying to figure how to hold the new empty caps for installing the primer compound

Use a piece of cardboard, a flat tipped punch can make the holes and they fit right in.

I use the primer tray like many of you. Not everyone has that. If you look around at any gun range you can find plastic 22RF holder trays. In black or clear plastic with 50 or 100 spaced holes. This works wonderfully. Simply glue or tape to a board or cardboard piece. Ideal for you hair sprayers . I know because I used to do that.
Wolfmanjack Weren't you making your cups out of .005 K&S brass? I have been doing that for my revolvers. Doubled up pop cans for the side lock rifles.

Duco and solvent is an interesting choice, I'll have to remember that.

Made a board to hold 100 caps. caps sit flush to board and dry mixture is easily brushed into caps and 200 proof denatured alcohol eye dropper in. than packed with a match stick after a 5 minute wait. Than put in oven set at 170 degrees for 20 minutes. Out of the oven sprayed with a mist of extra hold hair spray than back into oven for 5 minutes. 100 caps in just over an hour. the board is the height of the caps. After drying I simply push the caps out from the backside.
