Just a thought....

Is BP Cartridge as fun as a FLinter?

I've built a great plains Capper, ... Think'n 'bout build'n a flinter next, but I've never even thought of a BPC rifle.. Thought I'd get a few opinions from those in the Know.

Yep.. but..

BPCR is pricy, a cheap BPCR gun don't shoot well, cheap sights are a waste of money, a cheap bullet mould ain't good, you may need to buy several until you find the correct one. dies, brass, compression die, neck expander die, all add up. a cheap spotting scope ain't good.
Good accuracy is difficult to obtain & very time consuming to work up an acceptable load. Good bullet casting is a necessity, brass cleaning & preparation is a headache. Weighing out powder charges, drop tubing, etc. :m2c: I like lobbing bullets out to 700 yds or so. :: ::
If you are just plinking you can go cheap, but won't win against anyone without spending the money.

I regret selling my Pedersoli Quigly Sharps a few years ago and plan on getting the Pedersoli Lightweight Target Hunter or similar model as soon as income tax money rolls around. I still have all the brass, droptube, reloading tools and web cartridge belt and I can hardly wait! I even have about 20 rounds left. Every time I see a western movie or catalogue with a Sharps rifle it just drives me nuts. By the way, the Quigly model is too heavy for anything but benchrest shooting, mine was 13 and a half pounds with the tang sights and all. It was very accurate with my handloads at 275 yards which is the farthest distance at the range I go to. Spend a thousand bucks, you won't be sorry.

What a coincedence! Donny and I just wrote our 111th post and it concerns a cartridge rifle. Ironic.

I was ogling the Pedersoli Mortimer Whitworth. I have been contemplating getting into that realm, but I went and cleaned the flinters and I got over it.

I feel much better now.
