That happened 9 days ago, the story is dated November 3rd, 2004...

I believe it was their corning mill... (remotely operated)

For those new to black powder, corning is where they break the wheel cakes (chunks) of mixed powder down and sift into the different sizes... (Cannon, Fg, FFg, FFFg and FFFFg)

It also says this is the fourth explosion since 1997. I haven't noticed a dramatic increase in price in the last few years. I think they're well enough stocked that unless the whole plant goes prices shouldn't increase noticeably.

ya i seen the date but thought i would post it anyway , info is info . prices have went up fro 4 to 9 dollars a lb depending on where you buy it here in the west . last order we put through the Goex distributor dint have 3fff in can, but did have it in 25lb bags ?????? i didnt care for that

You have to take into consideration that this is a powder plant and they are expected to explode on occasion! The buildings are designed to come apart at the seams and direct the blast straight up or in a safe direction when they blow! The buildings are placed inside burms that seperate them from one another to cut the chance of sympathetic explosion.

Powder plants blow up. It is not a case of if, but of when they will blow. The engineers know this and plan for the enevitable. I doubt that they were out of operation for more than a couple of hours before transfering the corning to another building and resuming production. If they try to gouge us on the price they will only force the cost up to the level of the more expensive Swiss, which we will them buy instead, or we will go to the more dirty, but cheaper, Elephant brand! It's called supply and demand.

Dixie used to sell a no name generic powder that came only in cannon grade. We considered ourselves lucky when we could get it and shot it in everything we owned. We are much better off now, we have choices, there is more than one producer, we get multi-grade selections!
