There was an explosion at the Goex plant here yesterday. Luckily noone was hurt or killed.

I live about 30 miles from it & my wife said the house shook so bad it scared the bejesus out of her. She said she thought a tree had fallen on the house!

Whew!

I guess the DuPont plant on the Delaware had some baddies in the 1800's in spite of the bunker-like work areas and precautions. All the buildings were built against three sided earth berms and had one weakly constructed wood wall facing the river.

Good to hear no-one was hurt. Somewhere I read that, at the time, the DuPont plant was twenty times safer to work at than the coal mines where most of the powder was used. :shocking:

:hmm: :hmm:

If anybody wants some Goex at current prices, better order it immediately!!

 I'm glad to hear nobody was hurt.
I'm also glad I just had ten pounds of GOEX delivered to me a couple weeks ago.

Check the on-line edition of the Shreveport Times for Wed. Nov. 4.

They had a corning mill go up when the operator started it up from a remote location.

The same thing had happened in January 2000. Corning mills sometimes have a habit of going up when you first start them up and begin feeding powder to the break-down rolls.

The newspaper article states that Goex expects to be out of production for about 3 months.

There is more than enough powder in the supply system to cover that period of no production. There is no need for any panic buying.

Yeah. I heard powder factories of old were made with very loose construction techniques. I understand that not much care was put into building them because it wasn't a matter of if they were going to explode, but when.
