I picked up some Schuetzen 2f this weekend and am wondering how it compares to the Goex ?
The S. is cheaper than the Goex but, as Goex is our only USA blackpowder, I'll buy American whenever I can.
Just wondering what to expect from the S. powder..?

You can expect cleaner burning, slightly better ignition, and a more uniform grain size.

Graf's powder is re-labeled Schuetzen and is cheaper than most powders including Goex.

How does Schuetzen compare to Swiss performance wise?

A great American powder, designed to compete with Swiss, is Olde Eynsford by Goex. My guns are meant for hunting and as the revolvers are limited on capacity I will only use an energetic powder. From the chronographed results posted OE compares favorably to both Swiss and Triple 7. And OE also gives a cleaner burn from those who have tried other powders.

OK, so cleaner, more uniform and, possibly, more "zip"..
Thanks for the input Gents. :hatsoff:

Paul, The above should be a comparison of Swiss (not Scheutzen) to regular Goex.

I've shot plenty of each, and Scheutzen and regular Goex are comparable in every way, IMO.

Best regards, Skychief

Maine Powder House carries 5 different MFG of Black Powder, so look on their site and which one is the best of all shown.Going to drive, road trip, about 200 miles round trip, sold in 5 lbs lots.

That was the OP's question was it not? Answers seems to wander.

To answer you,

That's why I wrote my opinion regarding: Scheutzen vs. Goex. It's what the OP asked about and I could see where we might be getting off into the tall weeds, discussing Swiss.

OK, to sum up, the Schuetzen is regarded as relativly equal to the Goex in power, reliability and fouling.

Funny how it certainly didn't take the form of an answer, but that of a question... Not hard to distinguish one from the other.

Folks can buy what they will,....and I won't fault anyone for it....
But when Goex goes out of business....the future of flintlocks will be bleak....

I wish we had two American companies....

I agree which is why I also bought some Goex 3f that was also available...

Sweet,,,even better.Still being that close to KTP and LLB might just as well go the extra mile.
So out of what they carry I feel some are leaning toward supporting American Made Goex.

Exactly my experience also. Can detect no difference in shooting results.
Biggest difference is cost.
BTW, buying European made bp is OK in my opinion. We have a long history of buying guns and powder from western Europe. At one time in the 60s through 80s many brands and no-name powders being sold were from Scotland. They are friends and (sorta  ) speak the same language we do.
