I see this info has been mentioned before, but Numrich bought up all the Invest Arms made rifle parts that Charles Daly was hawking (yes, poor pun).

These are essentially identical to the Cabelas Hawken, and most parts are available. I was able to pick up virtually all the pieces to build up a Left Hand Hawken. The missing parts were sourced from Lyman, along with a Davis Deerslayer trigger from Track.

Shipping was fast, and all the parts were perfect. In fact the stock has a nice grain flow and a bit of figure. Pretty nice wood compared to some of the Lyman Plains and Trade rifles I have seen of late.

The best part is that my total expenditure was right around $350 including shipping. Not a bad price for a new left-hand factory Hawken with Davis triggers, eh?

By the way, Numrich also has spare LH breech plugs, so a fellow can build up a rifle to suit his needs quite easily. They also happen to have 15/16" Green Mountain .40 barrels in stock for $112, a right good bargain. I picked up a few spare plugs and one .40 barrel. Gonna rework the barrel threads to accept the Italian breech plug and build a nice target rifle using my last set of TC Vernier sights. Fun when a plan comes together.

There is a fair choice of right hand parts left as well for you poor unfortunates who shoot that way.....

Thanks for posting (even if it took 4 1/2 years! )

That is some good info,
Just a thought here about your .40 barrel. The T/C repl plug offered by many that will fit the GM barrel,, will fit the Italians with just a little modification, usually just filing the depth/width of the hook a little bit and the width of the slot for the lock plate by the nipple.

Guy's are droping GM IBS in Italians all the time without a breech plug change.

Yeah, long time lurker here.

So, does that TC replacement plug come in a lefty version? I have never seen the GM IBS offered in a left-hand version, but I don't mind the work fitting the hook if there are "sinister" replacement TC plugs offered. It would certainly be less work than cutting the breech end off and re-threading it!

Oop's, I missed the Lefty part,
Don't know of any that'll fit that,
It's a wonder nobody makes one that'll fit lefties, Lord know there's a market for left hand stuff.

I am pretty sure the threads are metric, but have not had a chance to measure one as yet. Will post that info after Thanksgiving for the benefit of all.

I cannot imagine there being any difference between the threading on a right hand or left hand plug from Investarms, so this info could come in pretty handy for those intending to rebarrel a Lyman.

I wonder what is the thread on the Italian breechplugs, metric I would assume?

Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather today. I took my parts over to a good friend in our muzzle loading club who is a crackerjack builder and machinist. We measured the plug several times and discovered it is 5/8-18!

What's more, the .40 caliber Green Mountain barrel I purchased from Numrich also turned out to be threaded 5/8-18! So we are tuning up the Investarms Hawken with the factory .45 barrel (very, very smooth rifling and bore) AND building the GM .40 barrel up to fit the rifle as well!

Life is GOOD!
