I got a sheet of leather a buddy of mine had for a little while. It's the same leather they make footballs out of...very stiff and has the " pebbles" on every square inch of it..can I do anything with this? Don't want a " football" looking belt bag..nor anything else that would resemble a football, in texture that is...any ideas on how to get rid of the pebbled texture without ruining the leather? It seems a shame to toss it away.

You know, I'd be tempted to try that for lining a bag made from really soft leather, just to "stiffen" it while taking advantage of the soft leather for quiet in scratchy brush.

I'm sure you could sand or abrade the surface to cut down on the pebbling, but I've never tried it. I have visions of it getting past the dye, but I'm not sure.

There's also the question of reversing it so only the bag side showed. Depends on what it looks like of course, but it might be pretty cool.

Nice find, and I sure wouldn't get rid of it. Some use or other will surface about an hour after it's gone!

Many years ago I served in the Royal Canadian Navy and due to a lack of proper Naval boots, they issued Army type "pebbled" boots. To pass muster we had to heat up a spoon and apply it to the pebbles to smooth them out. Perhaps you could try an iron on your pig skin. :hmm:

I've been using a heat gun to try and rid myself of the pebbles. Gonna take a LONG time!
Brownbear: I think your right, about everytime I sell or trade somthing off.. BAM..the next day or two I have a use for it. So I'll keep it and see what I can do with it..
Thanks guys!

If you have a torch even a home plumbers torch (Bernzomatic is one brand) get yourself a length of pipe even copper tubing as long as it's fairly stiff clamp that in a vise or some way solid and put the tip of a lit torch in one end let the pipe get heated and try quickly rubbing the leather bump side down quickly over the pipe like your trying to buff a shoe with a rag the way the old shoe shine boys did. A heat gun could work also. Wear gloves while doing this and stay away from the open end of the pipe!
