Do GPR barrels in .50 and .54 measure the same across the flats? I was wondering if I can put a .50 barrel on my GPR I already have in .54.

Thanks,

Exactly!

I want a smaller caliber plinking/squirrel gun.

I'll use less of my prescious lead with a .50 for plinking.

Track of the Wolf sells GM barrels in even smaller calibers for the GPR. You could get a .40 or even a .32 and save a bunch of lead and powder too. I plan to get one soon. Soon as I catch up from Christmas...

I have the 32 barrel for my trade rifle and it is considerably heavier than the 50 barrel. I think with my gprs it would be even more so. But Im left handed and finding a 32 barrel in left handed flint was not easy, so for tree rats I put up with the weight.

It's a shame they don't make some .58/.62 caliber barrels. These would be historically accurate for this 1850s+ era rifle.

I thought they did make .58/.62 smoothies. I thought Cayugad ordered one way back.

Hutin dawg;

excuse me but i squirrel hunt with my .54 gpr and it works just fine.

he may be like me though, I cracked the stock on my .50 cal lyman GPR and could only replace a $179 replacement stock with a .54 kit for $219. Now I got two of everything including and extra stock. :haha:

I think the 50 cal barrel is a great addition. You can always find 50-cal stuff, other calibers are more difficult to find accessories for. So if you are visiting a friend or hunting and you suddenly need ammo or cleaning accessories 50 cal is very convienient. And if you do not cast your own balls and need some fast 50 is cheaper than 32.
