Bought my second new rifle in flint the other day, but the Wife still, doesn't understand why I need so many guns. She said that she can't understand why a senior citizent need new guns.Need a good load to bark squirrels with and a good hunting load for whitetails for a .54.I guess the only difference between men and boys are the price of their toys.

Howdy! I have a .54 Flint GPR that likes 80 grains of 3F Goex/Walmart Pillow Ticking/.530 Hornady ball/bore butter lube. I took a nice size doe with it a year and a half ago. Clean double-lung pass thru.

Tried barking a squirrel one time and won't do that again. It was messy. :shake: Head shots with a .32 are much better. I would think 35 or 40 grains would be a good squirrel load in a .54 never tried it tho.

Where you at in central IL? I'm in Pekin.

Lyman recommends a minimum load of 50 grains due to the patent breech so there is no space between powder and ball. It wasn't mentioned what brand of .54 though.

:hatsoff:

That same load has proven itself many times in our camp on both deer and elk. I like 100 grains though the results of the 80 grain shooters prove it ain't necessary.

I live in Farmington.I am still working in Peoria daily.Work with one of yor retired PD officers.

Like Jethro only 80gr.of swiss.
I have shot squrriel with my .54 when deer hunting not much left of there head.
