Hi Smokepole buddies,

I just bought a new .54 GPR kit, one of many GPR's I've put together over the years. But on this one I would like something differant, a stain formula for the European "walnut like", stock that would give me a golden(honey)reddish stain finish? Something that would really set off the darker streaks and have a slight reddish, honey tint to it? What I need is the, "How to's and the how many's"? I have all of the Laural Mountain and all of the BC modern stains to work with. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Many thanks in advance!!! ...Ironhorse...

Last one I did I scraped the stock instead of using sand paper

Really made the grain POP.

I diluted LMF Cherry 5 to 1

put on one coat to show scratches and blemishes

Fixed that stuff - put on another diluted cherry coat

Followed up with 2 coats of LMF walnut (diluted 50/50)

Finished with 10 coats (hand rubbed) tru oil

Turned out really nice

Thanks cptleo,

That's just what I was looking for!! I had searched all the previous posts in the arkives about stock color, GPR and others, but just could not find any formulas. I realize a lot has to do with trial and error and scrap pieces and types of wood and all the rest that goes along with it, But, when one is trying to save chemicals and money, you really need a starting point and with the GPR being so prevalent, I was hoping someone had a little more experience then myself.
Thanks again :hatsoff:, Bob.....(Ironhorse)

Ironhorse,
Best of luck with your project. Just keep in mind that English and French walnut naturally have the golden/honey streaking that you are trying to create, whereas good old black walnut and claro do not. I dont know where Investarms gets their walnut, but the stocks of theirs that I have seen usually lack such coloring, although some of it is really nice. Please show us the results when you are finished.
