I want to make some moose snot, but I'm having trouble finding beeswax. I found grafting wax at a mill and feed store. They say it is made mostly of beeswax, but I don't know if it will work. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know about grafting wax. I have some that is pretty gooey, and I think there are anti-fungus additives that might make a mess in your bore.

For small quantities of beeswax if you're just making a trial batch: Sewing stores (it's used to wax thread). Fly-tying supply stores. Craft stores (beeswax for candles, or even beeswax candles).

The site Bob1961 listed is whene I get mine.

As has been stated try a sewing goods store. I got my beeswax at a Hobby Lobby. Thats a arts and crafts type of store. A little pricey by the pound but cheaper than most. They also have some leather craft and sewing notions. Not much in the way of cloth though have to go elseware for ticken or linen.

I was in a MICHAEL'S store (it is a store like Joann's Fabric met Walmart. A lot of craft supplies at a "lower" price) the other day and say beeswax in 4 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz, and 5 lb tubs. I wasn't thinking (sorry about that...my wife says it is normal) so I didn't check on price. :sorry: I won't get back to the store til next week so I will have to check then. It was in the candle making department. I don't know how widespread Michael's is but there are a lot of stores in the Phoenix area.

Thanks, there just happens to be a Michael's in my area. That much wax should do for me. I don't compete, so I would only be needing a little at a time. As for the website given, I checked it out. Great source if you want to buy several pounds, but I'm not to chicken to go into a craft store for a pound or two. Either there's only women, or some other guy buying the same stuff you are. Now, only if there was a way to leave the store without being seen.

I just ordered 10# from [email protected] . It was $40 including shipping. Might be a couple dollars high but not too far out of line.

If needed I can write a report on it when it gets here. Probably next week. Tinderbox

Ha Rebel----- wimin don ware dresses to stores no mor. Thes all ware briches. :sorry: :imo: :m2c:

Well, not all of them do. Some of the OLDER ladies still wear dresses. So a fella could dress up as an Old lady and get in without being to conspicuous. Course for me it is easy to have a reason to be in the fabric section since my wife is a seamstress by trade. So we do tend to spend time in fabfic shops and the fabric section at Wal-Mart. So i don't need to resort to disguises.

Somewherre along a rural roda will be a sign advertising honey....the bees wax may be had there as well.

Check your local farmers market this summer. I bet there will be a honey seller there. They usualy have more wax than they can handle.

The 2 beekeepers we had around here that I knew of both died within the last 2 years. Older guys leaving us & young guys just want a job.
That's why I posted that site I found. Thought some of the rest of you might be in the same boat.

You better bring lots of money if you do that. You'll find beeswax costing about $12 for a 1 lb. block. If you get it at JoAnn's, get on their mailing list and wait until they send out one of their 40% Off coupons. Otherwise, you'd be better off to order it online.
