Sorry for posting this as I'm sure it's in here somewhere, but for the life of me I can't get the search function to work for me. :surrender: How many grains of FFg in one pound of Goex black powder?

7000 grains to the pound for anything measures in grains, not just powder. It's a universal unit of measure that isn't specific to type or brand.

Is that correct there are only 70 shots in a pound if 100 grain loads are used or did I do the math wrong?

You are correct. Comes out to around 20 cents per shot, depending on the bp price per pound. Kinda makes you want to shoot the smaller calibers more where the charge is about 30 grains.

A good free conversion program for grains to pounds and lots more.

How much wood can a wood chuck chuck? :rotf:

I know there's 7000 grains per pound cuz I counted them once! :rotf:

Seriously folks. I'm a poor boy and when I shoot my 54 Hawken at paper for fun, with my kids or just plinken, I always shoot 30 grains. I know its a teeny load, but I get to make more smoke that way and go boom twice as many times.

Grain
An ancient unit which was originally based on the weight of a grain of wheat. The grain is the smallest unit of weight in the avoirdupois, troy, and apothecaries systems. Surprisingly it is identical in all three systems.

4 grains = 1 carat
24 grains =1 pennyweight
480 grains = 1 troy ounce
5760 grains = 1 troy pound
437.5 grains = 1 ounce avoirdupois
7000 grains = 1 pound avoirdupois
1 grain = 0.0648 grams (0.06479891)
15.432 grains = 1 gram
