I visited my local small town newspaper office today.

I asked if they had any paper for sale suitable for patterning shotguns.

The kind woman showed me what they call an "end bolt". Simply put, it's a partial roll of light grey newspaper paper. It must have a half mile of paper left on this roll, but, not enough for them to use efficiently. I'd bet the roll of paper weighs 35# or more.

I walked out of the office with the paper after paying the princely sum of TWO bucks for it! I must have looked like a cat that just ate a canary. :haha:

Tried some today and it works great. Can see the whole pattern out to twenty yards or so and the pellet strikes are super easy to see versus actual sheets of printed newspaper.

Hope this helps any of you getting ready for turkey hunting.

Best regards, Skychief

Thats cheap! I used to be a printer at a news paper and they sold em by the lb. What you got would have went $15.00. Folks use em for picnic table cloths, kids crafts and drawing etc. I too have been using em for targets

Old retail window posters are good too. White backs, heavy stock, and they change them every 2 weeks.

Oh yeah. Some newspapers even give it away free. It's been my "secret" source for over 40 years. Great for big art projects for kids, and now grandkids. One year we were out of freezer paper with lots of venison to wrap (long drive to town), so we wrapped the meat in Saran, then in the newspaper. Worked at least as well as freezer paper, and probably better due to the Saran seal. Also great to wad up for packing when you mail stuff. The list goes on and on.
