Yes. I built two kits last summer and I browned both locks. I applied BC blue and rust remover and removed it with 0000 steel wool. The color wiped right off and left a shiny silver surface. I put it (and all the other hardware) in the oven to heat it up and then gave it a good dose of BC Plum Brown, rinsed and repeated a time or two. Then I covered it in oil and used oooo steel wool to sorta work it down and left it oiled up overnight. If you don't do that last step you will keep finding rusty orange splotches popping up for a week or so. To me it looked much better browned.
