have read in some of these threads that Lyman quality control has turned sour in making there rifles. Has any one purchased there Great Plains Pistol if so how was it ?

This is my opinion only. Lyman makes some crappy stuff lately and their customer service is non-existent. However, they don't make these guns. I believe their guns are made by InvestArms. The guns may be fine but don't count on any help from Lyman if you need something fixed or straightened out. :cursing:

I own an older Lyman Plains pistol. (.50 cal) made in 1999. Bought it new, finished, unseen, thru the mail. The tang sticks out of the stock about 1/8". But the gun shoots better than I can hold it. I'm not sure about the newer ones! Sorry!

I just picked one up at a pawn shop and so far I'm pleased. It appears to be in unfired condition with just a little surface rust in the bore from inattentive user. Lock works solid and seems to have a good trigger pull. Fit and finish seems pretty good too. It's a AT proof so from 1988. At a hundred dollars, I thought it a good deal.

A friend of mine brought one of them over a couple years ago and it was a nice gun. Sold me on that style of pistol.
Pity to hear that quality control has gone into the toilet with them.

So my take on this would be to look for an older pistol if one wants a Plains Pistol.

I have one in a 54 CAL.
Love mine. Just don't get to shoot it as much as I would like.
No problems with mine.

I have the Great Plains Pistol in 54 cal. It is a great gun and with 35 grains 3F, I can keep it in the black at 50 yards. I took the belt clip off and went to a holster as the belt clip tended to slip out when bent over. :hmm:

that happens when you wear it so the belt hook is in, put it in your sash so the hook is out and it won't fall out so easy

My new PP .50 arrived today. I've only had a few minutes to look it over, but so far I am quite pleased with my purchase. Fit and finish appear to be adequate thus far.

I'm thinking venison will be in its future.
