Hello all. Could use some sage advice please. I currently enjoy a Safari arms .54 and a J. Browning Mountain Rifle in .54 (both percussion)
I've always wanted a flintlock and am looking seriously at a Lyman Great Plains in .54. While it will shoot paper, I'm really looking to hunt with it.
As to my comparison question, with my Safari arms loaded with 90gr FFG I can comfortably hit a 4" circle from about 85 yds consistently(kneeling, assuming I do my part)
My Browning I can stretch back to about 150 yds and more like a foot circle with 130gr FFG resting the gun on a water tank.
Now the question, with the Lyman flintlock .54 Great Plains and 100 or 110gr FFG should I expect a good, honest 100 yard gun for hunting? Or, would it be more like a consistent 60-80 yd gun?
As always, assuming I do my part.
Thank you for your reply.
