Once upon a time Green Mountain produced .40 bore drop-in barrels for TC Renegades. They were the 48" twist which is medium slow for forty caliber and 28" long to be a replacement in kind for the Renegades, a fortunate decision as if any longer it would have undo muzzle ponderance. I've enjoyed mine since finding it in the 1990's in a forgotten dusty box on a back shelf of a closing store. Makes me wonder if there's others out there who've had one.
Anybody? Ever seen one of these?

Yes I have that exact Green Mountain barrel in my Renegade. It is a favorite and is very accurate. It made me really appreciate .40 cal.

I have one for a Renegade project in a target rifle. Could I ask you folks what size round ball and patch yours likes ?

Thanks
O.R.
I have good accuracy success using Hornady .395 lead round balls with .018 thick pillow ticking patches.

No you can easily load that with a short starter. You can go to a thicker patch such as .020 if you’re making a tighter target load and you still may not need to use a hammer unless you go thicker than .020.

any one try a conical out of the 40
Yes. I’m currently shooting paper patched 340 and 400 gr bullets and I now have a 300 grain grease grooved bullet mold I plan to use for prairie dogs, yotes and antelope. It likes powder charges fro 50-75 grains 3f so far. This will probably be the rifle my 12 year old great granddaughter uses for deer this season.

One of our regulars here recently posted .40 caliber REAL bullets in the classified ads. I suspect that for a slower twist barrel they might be just the ticket.

And the grease grooved lightweight looks like this...

Does yours have a nominally forty bore?
I have one with 16" twist and have come to wish it had a .41 bore to take advantage of the off the shelf molds (to shoot as lubed lead). That hollow base paper patch mold shown above is adjustable length and I'm still trying it out for the 16" twist. Looking forwards to the snow going away.
