I am new to this so if this is completely crazy just let me know.....My Dad has a Hawken style rifle that has pretty good wear on the rifling in the barrel. he has a line on a Green Mountain barrel. would this work on his stock?
Also I guess I should mention that it currently is a .50 cal and the other barrel is a .54
Any help is appreciated.

Who is the manufacturer of you Dad's Hawkin?
It matters.
T/C, CVA, Traditions, Lyman, Investarms, Charles Daily,,,(?)

If the GM barrel is one of their I.B.S.,,
And if the barrel is 15/16", I haven't seen a 1" channel on an Investarms.
OK then it'll fit, the only problem is the groove in the breech that fit's over the lock is too narrow and needs to be widened. The Investarms lock plate is wider than the T/C.
This can be done with a file or a Dremel (with a practiced hand).
Other fitting issues with all rifles and the GM I.B.S., are with the hook fitting to the tang sometime it'll drop in sometimes the hook or tang needs to be filed and/or some wood behind the tang needs to be removed for depth of the hook.
The rail will probably need to be shortened an 1/8-1/4" too near the nose cap.

All this stuff is easy to do at the kitchen table.
(when the wife is out shopping)

Awesome.....thanks. I guess I'll have to give her a kid to take to the mall for a day...LOL

If it's a 15/16ths barrel Mr. Hoyt may not want to bore it to a .54 cal. But one could call and ask. :idunno:

That is a good address to have. I have a GPR in 50 and I have considered getting a 54 barrel but the are over $300. This is sure somthing to consider. Geo. T.
