How are the Green Mountain barrels as far as accuracy is concerned,I see several people are using them,how do they compare to the custom barrels?

I have a .62cal GM flint smoothbore drop in for a TC Hawken stock which I've only used for shot loads, and it's perfect;

I bought a .58cal GM Flint barrel as a drop-in for a TC Hawken stock this spring...It's a 1" x 33" x 1:70" round ball barrel with very deep grooves and may possibly be the most accurate rifle barrel I own.

80, 90, and 100grns Goex FFg, Hornady and Speer .570's, with .018" pillow ticking it just seems to hit where ever I aim it...with the 100grn load zeroed at 50yds, it only drops 3" at 100yds...just waiting for deer season to open :: ::

Green Mountain barrels are great. They are just as good as any massed produced barrel out there. They're so good that I predict they they will put many of the other major barrel makers out of business in the next 5 years, when they start producing 42 and 44 inch swamped barrels. The reason for my bold prediction is GM barrels will be around $50 cheaper than Getz, Colerain, Rice, and etc. Also, they have alot more machines and can manufacture more. Why wait a year to get a Getz barrel when it's $50 more and they both shoot the same.
Just about all barrels out there will produce good groups if proper load development is done.

I was shooting my Green Mountain Barrel today out of my tree platform. I have a .58 caliber 1:70 twist like Roundball's only mine is percussion. I was shooting 100 grains of Goex FFg, Speer Roundballs, moose milk pillow tick patches, and CCI magnum #11 caps.

I put this board out( between 30 - 35 yards ) where the deer usually cross in front of the tree stand. I put a 2 inch square box on the board that I made out of electrical tape and a red magic marker.

I shot all 20 rounds without swabbing the barrel. I loaded in the tree stand and shot off a set of shooting sticks I made for the tree platform. The wind was moving the tree a little but not too bad.

Needless to say, I like my Green Mountain Barrel. :imo: I think they are a very good quality barrel. I am going to get another one for my new flintlock I believe.

Nicely done, Cayugad!

For my money, GMB's are the best... I own one custom barrel that cost me $30.00 dollars more then a GMB .40 caliber, and when all is said and done, it is no better then a GMB... :applause:

It would take some kind of manufacturing disaster by Green Mountain before I ever switch to anyother barrel maker again. They are simply the best, no matter what caliber your buying! :imo:

kaintuckkee,
i own two GMB (.36 & .45) and i could'nt be happier than the results i get with them :m2c: trust me when i say groups such as cayugad's are not uncommon :imo:

People (me) are afraid of getting and inferior product if they purchase a product that is lower price. This is generally true, but with Green mountain it is not the case. Other barrel makers are "Mom and Pop" type operations with one barrel drilling machine and one "swamper". I spoke with Rice and he said that it takes 85 minutes to swamp a rifled barrel. This limits the amount of barrels he can produce in a day, and at the end of the day he still has to hit his profit number. Then you take GM who has 50 barrel machines (no lie) and can put out more barrels, and that's why GM prices are $50 cheaper. I wish GM would hurry up with their 42 and 44 inch barrels, they said they were suppose to be out in August....
