Anyone have the load data for the Green Mtn. Barrels? I have both the .54 and .58 caliber 1-70" twist IBS barrels for my TC's. I shoot only Roundballs and 2F Kik powder.
Thanks,
Idaho PRB

FWIW, I also have the same GM .58cal drop-in barrel (Flint) for a TC...since it was made as a clone of a TC to drop in, I've always just used TC's load data charts...and I just dug out GM's generic manual which ships with every barrel, and it lists 110grns as the max 2F load.

roundball,
110grns, I'm a little surprised it was
not a bit higher than that, especially in the
.58. I'm almost always 15 to 20% below
max loads and they work well for me.
Just another thought did you find the
break-in(#of rounds fired) high in your GM
barrels. I have a .45 GM IBS that I have shot
maybe 180 to 200 times and it seems to get
better with each shot. It has to be the barrel
because I know my eyes are not getting better.

I shoot 120 out of the 54 and the thing they wrote about it not needing break in is :bull: it will get better with more shots. Fred :hatsoff: 54 and 58 psi is so low with round ball I wouldnt worry about what you shoot Ive got one cheaper barrel for maybe 10 yrs now for 58 and it shoots best with 130 3f.

I suspect the 110 max has a lot of safety liability in it...'ve tried 140 in a TC .54cal and I suspect the .58 would easily handle that and more if anybody had a reason to need it...even at 100grns it blews completely through 4 bucks I've taken with it as they were all around 50yds...it's overkill where I hunt in thick woods / close shots, but I love it!

My 58cal x 1:70" was extremely accurate out of the box, and it made no difference if I used 80, 90, or 100grns Goex 2F...shot 50 shots of each powder charge on 3 different Saturdays and left it at 100grns for deer hunting as it's power was evident...and accuracy wise they just seemed to find center bull like a heat seeking missile regardless of powder charege...I use Oxyoke wonderwads, .018" TC prelubed pillow ticking, and Hornady .570's

I have a 36" GM .58. With 70 gr. KIK 2F it will shoot five shots in one ragged hole at 50 yards off a bench. At 100 it will shoot dead on with 90 grains. I generally get two to three inch groups at 100 yards. Probably could do better if I had my younger eyes back.

I just received a reply from Green Mtn. on the question of max loads for their .58 and .54, 1-70" twist IBS barrels. Thought you all might be interested to hear the reply.
