Here's a quick picture of a horn I finished today. I picked it from Roland Cadle's pile of horns at Lewisburg this year because I liked the grey-green color. I enhanced the green color at the throat with a mixture of RIT green and brown dye. I blended the dyed portion into the horn body. The plug and stopper were turned from curly maple, the collar was truned from horn, and the brass spout was made from a tubing connector I had in my scrap box. The little Jet lathe shapes brass nicely with files.

Thanks much for the kind complements. The photo was taken in very bright sunlight around noontime. The color and blending actually look a little better in less intense lighting.

I think curly maple would be more attractive on a simpler plug - like the domed Bucks County or a flat plug. When contours are added, such as the plug I show, the curl tends to just look like a mottled finish.

Nice looking horn...although being color blind I'll take your word on the pretty green color... :rotf:
