I'm a Coast Guard Gunners Mate/GM. I build the automatic 76mm (3 inch) guns you see on our Cutters.
I've owned several BP firearms including 1851 Navy, 1858 Remington Army, 2 NAA Mini revolvers and a 'Kentucky' Flintlock. All are modern repros except the Minis which are of course modern firearms based loosely on late 1800s pistols but made in modern stainless steel.
I also enjoy modern firearms and build my own Kalashnikov and variants from parts 'kits'. I do however make my own receivers.

My many thanks for the warm welcome folks.
Right after 9-11 the Coast Guard called me up as they (And all the other Services) were looking for folks with prior service at E-6 and above. I was honored to join the finest group of young folks this country has ever produced.

Blackpowder firearms always fascinated me as a kid. Sadly, as a youngster I could not afford many authentic or reproduction firearms that were then available at very low prices. I cobbled together parts and pieces to fix an old Iver Johnson 12 Gauge and loaded my own shells by hand. I was VERY careful and enjoyedmyself immensely. Paying attention in machine shop class was quite productive too as I was soon fixing neighbors' guns. After a too short stint at Army OCS (I was dropped after being shot by a stray bullet by an armed robber while on leave) I was back at gunsmithing but it didn't pay the bills. After 19 years as a Ford Motor Electronics Tech and bringing up two girls by myself I got back into 'smithing. My job with the CG helps greatly as building AAA Guns is right in my line of interests!
I'm one of the very few 'Coasties' that are both GM (Gunners Mates) and ET (Electronics Technicians) and I enjoy doing both jobs.

Yo, Coastie. Former sandcrab (squid stuck on the beach) here. I'm in Ballamer. When I'm wearing blue wool, I'm one of the occupiers :blah:
