This picture was sent to me by my cousin who lives in Dayton, OH. The buck was killed illeagally the day after the close of gun season, near Pickerington, SE of Columbus. Talk about antler mass. :shocking:

Beautiful deer. Too bad he didn't make it to next season so someone would have a chance at him legally.
I'm sure he passed his genes on for the next generation. Our gun season runs after the rut.

 ::  That IS a big'un! Just one day earlier and I would congratulate the guy who got that one. But, you just have to let the deer go, even that one, when the season is over. That is a painful decision, but a necessary one IMO. Great deer, though!

Sounds like he was out there with a deer rifle knowing the season was closed...

I agree. He probably saw that big fella at some point during deer season and just couldn't let it go. That is a shame.

I agree roundball. I would call it more like premeditated murder.

Idiots like that can give us hunters a bad name. It happened here in Colorado too, cant rember the town, but some idiot shot the "town pet", a trophy 7x7 bull. The paper
said the "hunter" shot him between the eyes with a .22
Bad publicity for our sport says I

Yep! We do grow em' big here in Ohio.....I've hit 5 deer within 6 years and the last one was huge....totaled my work van.....beat the snot out of me....airbag deployed and beat me up something fierce.....I get real nervous during the mating season when I need to drive.

So, get on over here and drive these roads and slaughter these things will ya'?

Wowzer! :shocking:

Is that the one they were calling "Swamp King", and was a local celebrity? I heard something on the radio about him (and that he was found dead just after the season).

Well, maybe he wasn't poached after the season closed after all...maybe the guy shot him on the last day and then couldn't find him..it's amazing the number of people who shoot, see a deer take off, assume they've missed, and either don't bother looking or don't look very hard.
