Have any of your ever bought a gun from, or heard of a fella by the name of Bobby H. Christian? He e-mailed me with a fowler he has for sale. He said it is new, never fired, and that he built it. It looks real nice in the pic's he sent. Said he has a 3 day inspection period and if you are not completely satisfied you can return it, and he even will pay the return shipping. Just wondered if he is known by anyone. I kinda hate to send that much money to someone i have never heard of if ya know what i mean. Not sure if this is the right place for this post or not. If not, i'm sorry.

:imo: I would be real careful ,and make sure this guy is for real before I sent any money . A 3 day inspection period ain't much time . Sure , you can send the gun back (if you get it at all , anyone can have a picture of a gun) , but did he say he would send your money back  ? Within 3 days ? You can't be too careful . :m2c:

Hey to Rebel - Don't send any money at all ..
Just tell him you'll pick up the postage, and that 10 days is a much better inspection time for you.. that way you can see the gun up close and personal, see if it fits you, see if you really like it etc..take it to a gunsmith if need be..
Don't do credit cards, pay-pal etc..guys even got bank checks from Canada that were bogus..
My advice is Western Union Money Order -
Don't send till you really decide and have the GUN IN YER HANDS..
I'm also on the Knivemakers Forum, and there was a SOB there that took a lot of good people for a ride..
He promised them all kinds of stuff, came up with the most creative excuses; and we still want him, bad.. :curse: :nono: :curse:
THese sites have some of the best, nicest, helpful people on them, and I for one don't want to see anybody here get burned..
Maybe the guy is on the up and up; BUT my neck hackles are standing up on this one..
Spring forward

Thanks for the advise guys. I guess you are probably right. I have bought and sold guns on auction arms and gunbroker, and only ever had 1 problem, and thankfully it wasn't a big money deal. I have sold a few guns to people on ML'er Forums, including a couple of people on this one. I know in deals like this someone has to trust someone else that they don't know. For the most part there are a bunch of real honset people in this sport, but ya just never know. The other thing is that although the gun he has is a bit fancier, Brass furniture and nicer sideplate, it is only $45 less than i can get one from Jack Garner at TVM. Guess i'll deal with a known maker that has been around a long time. Thanks again.

Thank you Rebel for posting it here..
Now everyone on the site is aware of " Bobby H. Christian "...
If he really is ok; he can sell his gun at a local gun show, or send it to TOW to sell for him..
You stay well .. I believe ya done us all a great favor..

Well, i don't want to cost a legitimate builder any business, that is why i was hoping that someone here had dealt with him. He says he lives about 10 miles from Jack Garner in Miss. He may well be a legitimate seller, its just that i hate to take a chance on loosing $650 that i can't afford to loose. Especially when my 17 year old granddaughter is putting up $300 of it for me as an early Birthday/Christmas present for me.

Who made the first contact? If you e-mailed him I'd say it wood be ok. But if out of the blue this guy just e-mailed you I would worry.
Lehigh..

I made first contact, as i found an ad he had posted on another message board. I just worry about the money. I know there has to be some trust involved, it's just that i wish there was a way where both parties could be covered against fraud. Still wish i would hear from someone that had dealings with him personally.

Hey Reb, whar he be at? Do you know of anyone who could take a look as your proxy for a first inspection? Might be even some one from here at MLF, or go over to ALR and see if anyone there has any pro or con info on him?

Rebel,
Maybe a personal contact by telephone would put
you a little more at ease. If he is a legit gunbuilder
he certainly has reference he could supply you with, if
not hang-up.IMHO

I understand you don't want to send him the money till you know bout the weapon and don't want to loose the money,, I bet he feels the same way bout sendin you the weapon with out the money in his hand,, Tough spot to be in,, huh ??

For all you know, this guy could have done a google search on "Oregon Guy looking to buy an unseen fowler and is willing to go for the classic 3 day inspection period scam" and your name popped up as the #1 hit...

Reb, no one is forcing you to buy from him, there will be other fowlers...

BTW, I found his ad:

$650.00 For Sale 20ga early Virginia fowler,42" barrel, plain maple stock, R.H. large siler lock, brass furniture, wht lightning vent liner,14" pull. Pictures avaiable on request

Yep, that's the ad. How do you do those things so fast? You are a man of many talents. Thanks to all for the input. I guess what it boils down to is one of us having to trust the other. Guess i will need to do some more thinking about this and have a talk with him and see how i feel then.

You boys really are a suspicious bunch. Let me get your help here--I have a client whose late husband, former oil minister in a small African country, stashed away several millions in kickback money. . . .

I thought it was the brother of; not the wife !!!
Wasn't he also the head of the " Nirobi Mafia " ??? :yakyak: :yakyak: oh no, that's who's sending this stuff out now ..
His bro wanted my bank account number so he could get all those riches out of the country.. :youcrazy: :youcrazy:
I think I'll have him send it to the I.R.S. so they can get their fair share first !! !
I'm amazed how fast these letters go into my special file named "DELETE " !!
