I don't know if postings on legislation is permissable. If it it is, here is some information.

Currently, two bills, one in the U.S. Senate and one in the U.S. House have been introduced to absolve gun manufacturers from frivilous lawsuits. This is good.

The SENATE bill has had a rider added which would require "child safety" locks ( See http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=2&vote=00017 ).

This could be a minor annoyance or a major pain in the butt, depending on how its worded. UNFORTUNATELY, the amendment is not yet up for viewing. EQUALLY unfortunate, it has been sponsored by a notorious anti-gun Senator from California.

The gun manufacturer's liability law is a good thing for us. At present, the Federal Government does not consider a muzzle-loader, either original or replica, as a "gun". HOWEVER, many states, those from which the most anti-gun Congressmen come from, DO. There have been bills introduced in Congress in the past to extend Federal Laws to muzzle-loaders, but SO FAR, they have not gone anywhere.

Its easy for muzzle-loading fans to sit back and watch all this rhetoric about "assault rifles", "Saturday Night Specials", "ballistic fingerprinting", etc and say, so what? I don't have any of those. It doesn't impact me.

However, today, there is a cultural war going on the United States and a big part of that war involves firearms and firearms of all types. There are very well-organized groups out there, some of them having nothing directly to do with Gun Control movements per se (e.g. religious groups, product manufacturers, entertainment figures, etc.), which support this kind of legislation and whose ultimate goal is total disarmament of the public. They see no distinction between "assault rifles", "modern guns" and muzzle-loaders. From their perspective, they are all guns and all equally bad. Their goal is to remove and destroy all of them and they are proceeding to accomplish incrementally, what they could not achieve in an outright direct and total attack.

So keep your eyes open on this subject, and contact your local reps and President Bush on this one. Let them know you exist and you care.

Perhaps a topic section dealing with gun legislation might be a good idea.
