Hello, I am having a blacksmith friend make me a wrought iron gun rack (the hooks for one). What should be a proper width for the hooks? Lyman GPR if it matters.

I don't think the dimensions are critical. The Lyman is not a real thick rifle through the stock, and the barrel is only 15/16, so I would go maybe an inch and a half across the hook. You don't want a press fit or anything, all it will do is lay in there and it doesn't need to be "gripped".

Something you may want to think about! :hmm: Leave enough for the gun width plus allowing for some rubber strips epoxyed to inside of horeshoes. It won't take but a few times of putting it on the horseshoe gun rack and taking it off before you will begin to see marks on stock!!! You will also need something against the shoe that mounts to wall to protect other side of stock. Perhaps you could use clear bumpers, like those designed for cabinet doors there!

or try wrapping your (rifle) bearing surfaces in leather scraps, that will give a unique appearance as well as protection
