Do you attach a gun sling on your muzzleloading gun when you hunt? Do you prefer permanent or temporary sling attachments? Can you post any pictures of sling attachment methods?
Thank you,
Billk

I use a GPR and a deerhunter, both with slings. For the GPR I have a sling without swivels, for the deerhunter with swivels.

Here are just a few pics of a sling made for my Hawken by a friend in the leather business.

Hope these help, and yes it works very well too. You can take it on and off it you like and the sling is adjustable. The nice thing of course it looks more PC perhaps but you don't have to do any drilling into the wood or put any special parts on the underlug to install it.

I use a sling for my Deerhunter. It is an old Turkish Mauser sling. I carry the rifle crossbody.

For my GPR I use a similar one as shown on the pics, commercial made.It is an US-firm and I got it from Log Cabin Shiop. For the Deerhunter I use a normal hunting sling made of leather asthey are also offered for modern rifles.

On the 2 half stock "Hawkens" that I built, a round piece of steel w/ a transverse hole that accepts a modern sling swivel, is riveted to the 1/8" thick toe plate. The front sling attachment is made of 3mm rod and has a general triangular shape that is installed in a groove filed in the under rib that positions it so that it "falls" on the RR pipe so it doesn't obtruct the ramrod. Personally, I wouldn't have any kind of rifle w/o a sling....dragging or packing out large game is made a lot easier if one can sling the gun......Fred

On my GPR, I just installed a set of Uncle Mike's swivels. Rear stud I placed in forward toe plate hole and front stud clamps around ramrod ferrule.
To me a sling is a must on any of my hunting rigs when dragging one out.
All of my modern shotguns have slings as well. Always need a free hand, especially when upland hunting with dogs.
