Sold a nice pair of Cimarron Uberti 1860 Army revolvers in Original Finish last week, with caps, flask, capper, bullets, 12 spare nipples, the whole works. Nearly new pistols, beautiful actions, everything included and was beat up on the price. In addition I clearly stated in the ad, Cimarron Firearms Original Finish, and included several clear pictures.

Now they're being returned because, of all things, the blueing is worn off. Now they look silver-grey in the pictures, but maybe he thought they would take a blueing in the mail? The buyer didn't understand that's how they come from the factory and must never have heard of Uberti's original finish. Of course I am taking them back, but of course I paid for the gun I sold these to be able buy already, so of course I put myself in a bind.

I wonder what it must be like for those of you that do this on a regular basis, or for a living.

I guess I don't know what "Cimarron Firearms Original Finish" and "Uberti's original finish" looks like either.

I was just looking at my 1969 Uberti 1860 Army and my 1976 Uberti Colt 1862 Police pistols and the blueing is as fine as any produced by Colt today. In other words, its shiny black/blue with no bare or silver gray areas.

I guess if you offer them again, you might describe the finish saying something like "Cimarron Firearms Original Finish which was a special silver gray color. This finish increases the guns value by $50 according to the "Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values". (It does according to the 3rd Edition).

How about using our very own...

Is there a way that you can contact the auction's second highest bidder to see if he's still interested? Does Gunbroker have a provision for private or second chance auctions?
I recommend that you also check to make sure that the pistols haven't been tampered with, original parts replaced, etc... before you give any refunds.
Does Gunbroker's refund policy mention any grace period which might grant you enough time to find another buyer & resell the pistols before the refund becomes due? :sorry:

It was my fault for jumping on the new one early. I doubt they were tampered with, he seems like a stand up guy who just didn't understand what he was buying. I doubt I will have a problem reselling, like you said the original finish adds $50 to the price of each and for the pair with all the accessories, including a bullet mold, 450-200-1R, I wasn't much over the list price onf one new one with original finish.

But, I mean, this is one of the pictures, does any blueing appear:

:agree:
Yes, like was suggested, why not post them in the classifieds here? There are a lot of Folks that check them on a daily basis.
Who knows, I might even want them.

Let me be the first to say that I'm inerested now, depending upon a pending sale of my own, if you are still interested in selling. I'll keep an eye out on the classifieds section for the pair. Curious though, why are you selling? I think they would make a top notch pair of CAS pistols (like I need another set!). CJ

I fell in love with a blackpowder muzzleloading double barrel that I needed for no apparent reason. Used the money for one to purchase the other.

Yeah,

That happens to me all the time. No big deal as long as you don't go to missin what you sold to buy the new toy interest or just got to have item. I'll keep my eyes open on the classifieds for the 1860s. Take care, CJ.

I do this for a living and let me tell you some people shop like my X wife, they buy like there's no tomorrow and take it all home to look at it and then return 98% of it. :youcrazy:

I've never had any real problems selling on auctionarms and have sold several firearms that way. The strangest one was I sold a LeMatt on there last winter and someone bought it using the buy it now feature and they later sent me an email saying they thought they were bidding on an original (who would sell an original LeMatt in new condition for $450?) I simply relisted the item, resold it to a happy customer only to have the original bidder send me a nasty email a few monts later asking where there LeMatt was, seems they thought that the deal should have gone threw even though they never actually sent payment for it. I suppose there are people out there who will make you shake your head, but the vast majority of them have been good customers.

Resolved. Seems the buyer checked around a little, discovered what it was he had, and decided to keep them. Like I said he seemed like a stand up guy, just he opened the box on a pair of almost used pistols and found something that looked 100 years old. If you haven't seen them, Uberti does an excellent job with this finish.

I didn't blame him, only myself for not waiting until he was satisfied before spending the money. See, the hard part isn't selling something you have to get something you want, it's if they were returned it would have been parting with them a second time when I had all of them in my posession.

Somehow I just know I would have found a way to justify keeping everything.
