Happy Guy Fawkes Day !!!!!

For those who have no idea who Guy Fawkes is/was, he tried to blow up the King of England and Parliament by tunneling under the establishment and placing barrels of Blackpowder. I like this picture because It shows him with a powderhorn.

I've spent a couple of Guy Fawkes' days in England...it gives them a chance to do something unruly and unregulated...bonfires, fireworks (some, not many)shows that the spirit is still there, just asleep...Hank

Not exactly tunnelling, they rented a cellar, but the effect would have been the same. They have his actual lantern in the Ashmoleum Museum at Oxford, lots of good stuff in the Ashmoleum ::

He was part of the Catesby Plot. None of the others thought it was a good idea to be taken alive, two of them died like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the flim, only by matchlock (little ML content there).

Fawkes was horribly tortured then sentenced to be hung drawn and quartered. He broke free when they tried to lower him onto the rope for a wriggle so they disembowelled his lifeless corpse.

Some you win, some you lose.

Some days I do as many as ten unruly, unregulated things before breakfast.

There's a certifiable crazy man in the neighborhood that throws a part every year. Last year he had everyone marching down the streets of Baltimore carrying torches. Part of Fawkes day is to burn someone in effigy, traditionaly to Pope. Last year it was Harry Potter for some reason known only to him. Anyway, just as he lit the paper mache Potter, the police showed up because someone said there was a "clan rally" going on and they were about to burn a cross in front of her house. It wasn't a pretty sight... people came out an started yelling at us and the drunken marchers started running in all direction carrying burning kerosene torches. I can't wait till tonight !!!!!
