During the second cleaning of my rifle I found something that may interest you, careful cleaning of the cup that strikes the nipple is often neglected so I spend extra efforts there. Mine is OK after more than 40 years of use but the part that is the point of this is there is little wear from thousands of strikes. The main spring is quite strong so having the hammer hit flat and square on the nipple is important. Yes, I see all the flaws of my youthful attempts but the fit is good. An other thread here addressed the issue of how a hammer should impact a nipple if at all. This is an example of how impacted hammer can look.
