An Iron Hand Cannon from the end of the 14th century. Round twist barrel, lightly swamped at both ends in 33 mm caliber with a small hook on the lower side. The breech piece of reduced caliber and with a touch hole without a powder depression on the upper side. Length: 28.5 cm, weight 3,72 Kg.

:hmm: Hmmm, Round twist barrel, eh? That may explain why its swamped. Using a strip of malable iron, wrapping it around a mandrel and hammer welding it would produce that effect.

33mm bore, that's a hair over 5.5". 28.5cm in length makes it a little under 11.25 inches.

Looking at that .25 inch touch hole I suspect this was a mounted piece. Otherwise, it was a dicy situation touching this puppy off!

ah yes, finally found it... very nice!
German, ca. 1500. Forged iron. Heavy octagonal barrel in 29 mm calibre with the so-called "pig snout muzzle", the touch hole on the right side with remnants of the original pan, a smith's mark in the shape of a five-pointed star with small balls struck three times in front of the slightly swamped end of the socket, and a hook with a hole for the retaining pin welded on the front third. Length 84 cm. Weight 13.5 kg. It includes a replacement oak tiller in the correct style. Length 168 cm.
