What do you guys use to hang your powder measure: chain, string, leather whang, rawhide, etc??? Also, do you lie to hang it from your horn, horn strap or pouch strap?

I hang mine directly off of my horn. I have found that the easiest way to do this is by utilizing a "clove hitch". If your powder horn strap has a leather thong for attaching to your horn, tie a clove hitch around the throat. This knot will have a free end hanging off one side, and you can attach your powder measure to this end. The clove hitch is a wonderful knot for attaching a strap to a horn throat. Once tightened, it will stay very tight around the throat.

Off my horn strap with a leather thong.

As you can see, it's the only thing I have hanging, and I usually tuck that under mmy belt so it doesn't dangle. The tie is just long enough that I can tip it up and pour from the horn into it. Tied above the horn also meand the leather doesn't need to be longer to reach the muzzle.

My measure hangs from my bag strap. I attatch a leather whang to the measure and punch a hole thru the bag strap then put the other end of the whang thru the hole and tie a knot in it on the back side of the strap. The hole is small enough to not let the whang slide thru the hole by the weight of the measure. When the measure is not in use I grab the knot behind the bag strap and pull the measure up close to the strap. That way it isn't flopping around while I walk or run. When I need the measure I can just reach up and grab it and pull it out to the length of the whang.

The best thing I've found to attach any of our individual tools is leather thongs , and by far the best for this 72 inch leather shoe strings that you find in the market whare shoe supplies are sold . It is the strongest leather material I've found , it's much stronger than the stuff you can get from the leather supply houses they are a litttle bit pricey but the 50 ft rolls from tandy arent cheap either.

Whatever you hang it with, hang it from your horn and put it in your pouch. It keeps your horn in place.

I have a pretty long thong attached to the horn, and the measure rides in a pocket on the horn strap. The thong is attached to the bottom of the measure, and the measure goes into the pocket bottom first, so any excess thong is tucked out of the way...Hank

I have always hung mine from a loop of whang leather, necklass fashion. It hangs to about mid chest and is kept under the bag strap to keep it from swinging to much. When not in use it hangs on a antler tine with my hunting bag and horn.

Leather strap (same skin as everything else is made from) hung necklace fashion. Whittled from Teak to fit inside the bore part way. Can be used as a 3rd hand if (when) the need arises.
