I showed up at my favorite rifle range today.. In the poring rain..It's been a wet cool summer. In Northern New Hampshire
One of the locals.. A young guy, nice kid, but 100% centerfire.. Asked me if "I was planning on shooting a muzzle loader"? I said "of course" and it's a flintlock.
He laughed and told me "good luck" If I could get it to work at all, the pan will be "full of Mud" after a few shots.
Fifteen shots later.. I didn't see any Mud..
To prove my point.. I stood in the poring rain and touched off a number of shots.
He was totally surprised that it functioned in the wet weather.
I guess they think you only hunted and fought when the weather was GOOD :hmm:
I offered to let him try a few shots and he gladly accepted.. First thing they all say is"how light they are" "I expected it to be much heavier"
Explain the set trigger.. they all love it.."WOW" What a light trigger
Asked me what "it is good for"?? I told him.. I will give you a nice piece of venison this winter

a big  to ya' oldarmy.
I've surprised some modern-arms shooters at the range a few times with my 50 yd groups from my capper .50's and I'm nowhere near a 'great' shot.

saw an older fellow at a public range ask one of the kalashnikov shooters if he wanted to try a little contest. five pound coffee can at fifty yards, standing. the centerfire goes first, no scope, sling, fancy stuff: just bring the rifle to the shoulder and shoot.

no real need to guess the outcome, but the twenty something hairychested fellow left the range all p^&*(ed off.

I just don't know where they get the idea that flintlocks don't work in the rain or humidity
