After finishing my son's bag I decided to try and make a haversack for myself. Here's the progress so far. Open to advice and criticism. It will get a leather flap. It's lined in blue pillow ticking it's made of natural cotton duct.

You have inspired me. I have some various canvas (Black, Grey and Natural) inbound (from Bug Duck Canvas) and intend to do a Haversack or two. I’m thinking about how to do the liner so it has a more smooth appearance without the welt inside. Only way I can figure so far is sew the outer bag inside out and sew the inner bag separately right side out. Then slip the inner bag inside the outer and stitch around the top. Would require some accurate measuring and building so they nest together nicely. Any suggestions?

I'm a beginner myself. Best I can think is stitch the inner bag together like you would any bad but don't turn it inside out then lay it on your material for the outer bag and trace it, that should give you the most accurate measurement. You will have to add a quarter inch or so for your stitching. Then sew it flipe it inside out. Take your inner bag and fold the top back over, slid it in and stitch them together. Once again I'm a beginner and this is just my thoughts on how to approach it. There are more experienced bag makers on here and other forums that could probably give better advise. I don't really measure anything on my haversack and my son's bag I just kind of eye ball it. That I. Itself had lead to some difficulties. Good luck glad I could inspire you. It's fun to make stuff. Mines not near good enough to sell but it works for me. Enjoy the process and when frustrated walk away and come back later.

Not PC/HC but…

Spray adhesive works well for glueing the inner liner too the bag..

I cut the outer bag pieces frost the apply the liner material too it prior too stitching the bag together.
With this method, the liner is smooth and stays in place… non removable.

this is how I do the ones I make, suggestion instead of permanently attaching the liner I sometimes will buttonhole the top of the liner and attach with buttons along the top inner part of the bag, this allows me to remove the liner to clean it should it become soiled.
