Haversack

I would like to see a few photos of a haversack that's simple, cloth or canvas.
I am thinking of sewing one up and dying with walnut hulls while I have them available.
I need a place to put all my nick nacks and random stuff for when I hunt and don't want to tote a back pack.

If you have something, I'd like pictures so I can try to duplicate. I know they're simple, how hard can it be to just whip one up but sometimes I just like to see what's out there, I may even blend two ideas together.

You almost don't need a pattern. Take a yard of stout material of your choice. Cut a rectangle about 12"-14" wide, and 3 times that long. This will be your bag. Cut a second square as long and wide as your bag. This is going to be the flap reinforcement.

Sew the flap reinforcement to one end of the large rectangle, inside out. Clip corners Turn this ***'y right side out.

Now sew up the three sides of the bag. Clip corners. Turn the whole ***'y right side out and stitch the top of the flap reinforcement to the inside of the bag.. Add button holes to the bag flap. Sew on corresponding buttons to the front.

Stitch a strap to the back of your bag, and Bob's your uncle.

Sew two small compartments to the inside of the back, where the stitching won't be noticed. Open top; one large enough to hold your car keys, and the other large enough to hold your cell phone. Some guys add a third, to hold the wallet. Trust me, this will save loads of time digging around when you're tired at the end of an event, or when there is a bad situation and you need to depart fast.

PS. Anybody gripes about the unauthentic inner pockets, ask them, "Where's your horse?"

I made this one using cloth left over from a Lowe's painters tarp. I stained it with coffee and then soaked it in boiled linseed oil and odorless paint thinner so it’s waterproof. The strap is padded with wool.

I certainly get the enjoyment of making your own, but consider getting one of these too! Only $20 and made from oil skin fabric. I use it to carry my deer hunting gear - binoculars, flashlight, license/tags, gutting kit/knife, TP/office stationary, field dressing gloves, lunch etc. ... and basic survival gear.

I use it for pretty much anything not going into my shooting or possibles bag, but it's waterproof!

But get one now ... as Panther Primitives is destined to CLOSE forever after FEB 1st, 2024 .... unless someone buys the business.
