Hi. Does anyone have any experience or opinions about the Tomahawks that Track sells? Good? Bad? Ugly? Not looking to go to war; just a nice smaller, light Hawk to carry to split a deer's pelvis or some camp work, Thanks, Flashpoint!

I have one of their English hawks and an Iroquois hawk. Both have been great for chopping, but I’ve never thrown them.

I cannot speak for any other tomahawk maker but a friend of mine gave me one made by Beaver Bill. It's one of their basic tomahawks. The handle was not finished. However, it's one tough hawk.

I wanted to stain and finish the handle with true oil. So I tried to tap the bottom of the handle to get the head to slip free. It would not budge. Seeing that I was not damaging the handle, I pounded the heck out of the bottom end of it on the garage floor. I hit the end of it so hard that I thought that I was going to crack the concrete.

There was no way that I could put a dent in the end of the wooden handle. I knew that hickory is a tough would but didn't think it was that hard.

I called my friend and asked him why I couldn't get that head to budge off of the handle. He explained to me that Bill puts the head on the wood with a hydraulic press.

Anyway, I used some 400 grit sandpaper to smooth out the handle, stained and finished it with Tru-Oil. I haven't done any throwing of the tomahawks but highly recommend Beaver Bill's work. Even though I have one of his creations, my friend has quite a few of them. They hold an incredible edge and I may get a few more.

Here's his web site and the link to the tomahawk that I do have.

if you want a throwing hawk buy one from CRAZY CROW. they are made for throwing.

I bought an Iroquois head and handle from TOTW for pretty much the same purpose. Required a bit of filing and some finish work but I’m pleased with the end results and it holds an edge well.

Thanks Enfield58. I'll checkout his hawks for sure.

FORT MEIGS hawk is for me the one to go with. historically correct & can split the deer's back bone. and can be carried in a haver sack.
I will definitely check them out. Funny, you think you know of all the resources out there and then you guys know so many more. Experience counts. Thanks.

Yes, I cut it off. I believe it was 18” long.

My wife just got me a Beaver Bill premium for Christmas. Haven't used it yet but it looks and feels awesome. I have a couple New Reliables from Track. They throw nice. Also have the small mouse hawk that matches. It is great for carrying hunting. Split a pelvis with ease.
