Most welcome flatheadharley,

I neglected to mention my favorite patch lube formula & bore cleaner. Mix 1/3rd quantity into a container of  alcohol, Murphy's Oil soap & hydrogen peroxide, also makes a good hand, flint & frizzen cleaner at the range.

Just passing along, this formula was given to me about 60 years ago by an old-timer at Friendship & have stuck with it.

While hunting I packed a small nylon bottle with a flip-up lid.

You mentioned Les Bauska , Les was an old friend that I visited often & supplied me with barrels a few decades ago when I was building custom rifles for a living.

P.S. You mentioned trying slugs;

Depending on the caliber & the riflings rate of twist I've often obtained excellent accuracy shooting 'tightly patched & lubed' commercially cast lead pistol & rifle slugs.
