is there and if so whats the best way to mount a scope on a 45 cal t/c hawkens ?

There are two ways to mount scopes. One is to put an extended eye relief scope halfway up the barrel. Then there is a mount for a regular scope that's set up in the usual fashion. I just took one off of a Renegade and it sold on ebay for $33.

T/C's suggestion is to use a flat Weaver base, which uses an existing screw hole of the rear sight, plus the hole on the top rear edge of the breechplug.
T/C also makes a replacement hammer with the thumb spur bent slightly outward to avoid hitting a scope.

This is a photo from one of T/C's catalogs:

A bud of mine has eye problems and has to use a scope. He's used the TC/Weaver set up for over 20 years, and it's worked great for him.

His only mod has been to put a bed of moly grease under the mount before screwing it down, in order to keep stray water from getting in there during cleaning or rainstorms. He dismounts once a year to refresh the grease.

The more traditional Malcolm style scopes look cool. Although they are not comparable to any of today's scopes. I still may do one just for funsey.

Beautiful stock wood...and basic design of a T/C Hawken but with a strong pistol grip...wonder who made it

TC made a mount (once upon a time) for the Hawken and Renegade rifles and another one for the New Englander. Snagged one of each from a store that closed just in case I might someday need them things. Ended up using the mounts for load development, just like I have always done for rifles shooting cast bullets.

i have one i just took off a renegade. if ya want it private topic yer address and i'll send it yo ya. it's a bit on the ratty side but still plenty usable. luck & have a good'en friend, bubba.

I've got a couple of set ups that must be 30+ years old. Can't remember who made them but they use Weaver rings. They are made to slip onto an octagon barrel and clamp down with 3 set screws. Never had one come loose and can be mounted anywhere on the barrel you want to, even leaving the rear sight in place. I have one for a 7/8" barrel and one for a 1". No holes to drill no sights to move.

That sounds like an interesting set-up. Mind posting a couple of pics?

I have no idea who made or owns the rifle. I just found the photo and posted it. I think the Malclom scope is cool looking.
