At Fred Meyers I found a TV series I never heard of before. It was less than $5.00 for the entire series."Hawkeye, The First Frontier". Starring Lee Horsley. It looks pretty good so far. Anyone know about it. The first disc had an awful fast reloading scene. He put this wooden tube on the barrel, and then the ramrod went through from the top of the tube.?

I remember it.
OK, not great. I used to watch it at least long enough to see one of the guys from Thundercreek Longrifles in the opening scenes at the start of each program.

Don't confuse Hawkeye with Hawkeye Last of The Mohicans. The former is a series done in 1994 which is pretty bad on costuming (at least for the one episode that I could stomach) and the latter is from 1957. Quite frankly, a series involving Nathaniel (Hawkeye) Bumpo should (imho) have young actors and actresses in it, not folks who are 40+ years old. The books Deerslayer and Last of The Mohicans has Hawkeye and Uncas rather young.

Unfortunately, in the United States and Canada, the entertainment industry has not grasped the full concept of the "historical drama" as has been demonstrated by the BBC. They are very expensive in most cases, and if not done right should not be attempted at all (again imho).

Hawkeye and Chingachgook were about twenty-five years old in The Deerslayer, about forty in Last of the Mohicans (Uncas was evidently in his late teens) and in The Pathfinder, about seventy in The Pioneers, and Hawkeye is about eighty in The Prairie. The chronology isn't terribly consistent (only ten years separates the events in The Deerslayer from those in Last of the Mohicans, yet Uncas is unborn in the first and evidently in his late teens in the latter) so don't worry about the math too much.

Making Natty Bumppo a member of Uncas' generation instead of Chingachgook's generation was one of only many, many changes Michael Mann made to the story in his movie. As a general observation, I get the impression that most people have only watched the movie and consequently have little idea what the storyline of Last of the Mohicans really is, much less the other four books which make up the whole series.

I have just bought "Hawkeye" with Horsley and Linda Carter (Wonder Woman) in the lead roles. I am really and truly enjoying each episode.

Not up to British historical drams standards, but still, it is muzzleloader centered runs for 22 forty-five minute episodes (almost 17 hours) and costs under $9. But then I have Prime, so it shipped free in 2 days.

I am not picky, and more than willing to grant license. Such as the French building a fort with the powder room near the outer front gate instead of deep inside. All the easier for our hero Hawkeye to bombard with fire arrows, after blowing the outer door with a bombard (using Linda as a sexy decoy to shift the French guards attention from their duty).

Still, I love this series... :shocked2: go figure.

Yeah, I hate historically incorrect... Wait, did you say Linda Carter!?

I got the series on disc as gift this past winter. I'm about halfway through them, your right theres a few creative liberties but easily overlooked when compared to the drivel on tv nowadays.

I remember watching this series when I was 7 years old. And the later re-runs. I don't know why I remember this, but one episode had John Hart mention to Lon Chaney that " I snuck in to the Indian camp last night - and took the firing pins out of their guns" :rotf:
I remember the use of converted Springfield Trapdoors in the Series. :haha:
But I still would enjoy seeing those again. I'll have to order the series. Rick. :hatsoff:

This isn't that series. This was made in the 1990s. It's not bad though and no trapdoor Springfields that I could see!

I found that at Fred's too and really enjoyed it! No, it's not as historically accurate as we would have liked it to have been. But, not that many French and Indian War movies out there either! So, I'll take it. :)
