Who says that a roundball is inefficient? Opening day of the NY regular hunting season started as usual for me. Went to the treestand with my trusty Jacob Dickert 45 cal flinter that I built and dressed in mostly period clothing. Now I've made meat a few times but only Does. At 8:30 am things changed, I harvested a real nice 6 pt with a 13 inch inside spread. He weightd 130lbs. The buck never knew what hit him at 30 yrds. I know it was not a long shot but he sure is mighty fine tasting. I've been hunting this property for 25 years now and I have the deer patterned(I think).I'll take woodmanship over distance every time! I still wish I knew how to post the pics. Best of Luck to everyone this season.

Congrats and Waidmanns Heil from Bavaria, GE.
Pics of the wounds would be interesting for my up-hill battle establishing ML-hunting in GE.

The entrance and exit wound were about the same size as the roundball, but the inside told a different story. I hit the buck alittle farther back than I wanted. He moved at the last second, but I managed to hit the back of the lungs, diaphram, liver( had a hole big enough to stick my fist through) and paunch. In all., I'd say that the roundball did more damage than the 12 guage slugs that I have put through similar sized deer. Aim small, Miss small

So a liver shot is always deadly, so when the loungs are hit too it's the best that could happen. My expirience from nitro hunting.

Congratulations for sure. Very nice buck. I also agree with woodsmanship over distance. Great job.
