Does anyone else find it helpful to "keep yer head up" when shooting a French Tulle fusil gun? The stock shape is not near as straight as I am used to and if I don't hold my head way high, she shoots way low.

Interesting Hypothesis, I have only shot mine about six times ( all Low) both ball and shot. pattern's dense enough, just low. So tomorrow at the range I'll give the heads up a try. although I may already be doing it with these bifocals. But I'll put some thought into it when I'm shootin tomorrow. Ah, retirement...six Saturdays followed by a Sunday. :redthumb: :haha: Bill

Yeap, head up is the way to go. Kind of look over the barrel instead of along it. Alot of the old smoothies were designed that way. Below is a pic of the last gun I built, just by the shape of it it kind of forces you to keep your head up.
Mid 17th century Dutch flintlock, 20 gauge.

Nice looking club butt.

My tulle fusil de chase is designed to shoot heads up, the pied de la vache butt stock almost demands it.

aint bifocals great. It's a good thing these guns have 42" barrels and only one sight to focus on.
Anyway, if you are like me, most of your shooting has been done with a rifle gun that has hind sights. I picked up my new smoothy, sighted down the barrel like a rifle and let 'er rip. 8 inches low. With a rifle, to raise where your ball is hitting you lower the front sight or raise the rear sight. The front blade on most fowlers is pretty low already, so the rear sight (the shooters eye) has to come up. Just how far up depends on how things like yer head and the gun stock are shaped, but with me it seems to be "heads UP" and both eyes open. Not bad once you get used to it.
