Hello everyone. I live in Big Arm MT and I'm renewing my interest in muzzleloaders that I had as a teen back in the '70s. Back then I made a CVA kentucky from a kit that was my constant companion when in the woods. I also have a T/C .50 Hawken that I used for deer hunting for several years in my 20's and early 30's. I'm 50 now and have decided to renew my former hobby. I just ordered a NSW Chief's Grade 20 gauge earlier this week after stopping in at Matt's shop while out hunting nearby. Him and Robin are really nice folks who answered my questions and made me feel right at home there.
I've been lurking here as a guest for a few weeks and have learned a lot and hope to learn much more from everyone here.
I'm a married, a father and grandfather. I'm a vet of both the active Air Force ( '81-87), Mt Air Guard ('87-'88) and the MT Army Guard ('01-'04)with a one year tour for Iraqi Freedom('03-'04).

Welcome, I am sure you find great pleasure with your choice. You are certainly in the best area to pursue your hunting.

Welcome...I spent just over two years in Great Falls, stationed at Malmstrom. Really enjoyed it. Built my first and only muzzle loading rifle kit on the kitchen table in my apartment while in Montana and visited the C M Russell Museum regularly. Left there in December of '72 Enjoy the Forums.

I was stationed at Malmstrom too. 1981-84. I was a Security Policeman with the 341st MSS.

Larryp, I went through Big Arm September 11 on the way from Kalispell down to the Bison Range. A friend later told me there was a really good museum with lots of Indian artifacts, etc., at St. Ignatius, I think is was. Have you been there and do they have any Hawken rifles, or other muzzleloaders?

I think he was talking about The Miracle Of America museum. It's in Polson, right on the south shore of Flathead lake on Highway 93. They do have several items from the fur trade and old west on up to the first gulf war.
