This is great I really like reading all the comments. I will be posting information on my home made black powder ,made with balsa wood and pure sulphur from active volcanos Which I live very close too. I should say semi active because they have no eruption but just kind of gargle. I also think the potassium nitrate is stronger here than in the States but that might just be in my head .looking forward to reading and learning more. Billbobebob

Interesting. I hadn't thought about sourcing things to make black powder right from nature, so to speak. Where does potassium nitrate come from, other than the chemical supply companies? Time to Google....

I read during the war of northern aggression the Rebs made their own potassium nitrate out of necessity. One of the ingredients was urine collected from all the ladies in town as the men was off fighting. And every time Johnny Reb shot his musket he would get an election. I think they even have a ditty sang about it.
