Afternoon all! Joined the site on Friday and thought I would introduce myself. Wonderful site lots of great reading material on it. I’m into all types of shooting, but anything Blackpowder is my real love!

Thankfully get a good bit of shooting .. I am in Northern Ireland and our gun laws aren’t as restrictive as south of the border, or as UK. Still not as good as the USA though! We are lucky to have our handguns (banned in south of Ireland and UK) but we can’t have any centrefire self loading rifles (banned since 1988.. sigh). All types of Blackpowder firearms permitted but must all be held on Firearms Certificate.

Welcome to the forum. You are for sure going to like it here. Great folks always willing to help!
Here is a picture of me, my wife, and our two girls taken at this years St. Patrick's day party at my VFW. It was also a B-Day party for our baby girl, she is 50 now! God that makes me feel OLD!
Just a wee bit of Irish in my German ancestory on mom’s side. My wife has mostly Irish, with a wee bit of Cherokee Indian on her mothers side, so say the kin anyway. They are from KY, and TN appilacians mountains region not far from Cherokee National Park! Cantrell and Eldridge clans.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I think I have just about recovered from the St Patrick’s Day hangover, although I was in Spain this year .. but the Spanish celebrated it just as much as we do!!

@BlackHillsBob yeah Northern Irish.. I think looking back in the family there are Scottish descendants... certainly with MY surname MacNeil!

Yes Northern Ireland is 6 counties and Southern Ireland (The Irish Republic) is 26 counties. There is a border but it’s technically invisible as we are all part of the European Union. So we can drive across without any checks. Though the big question at moment is whether or not this will remain the case as the UK leaves the EU due to Brexit. It is a very uneasy time with lots of unanswered questions.

On the subject of our wonderful past time that is shooting.. I’m very glad to be in N Ireland as we haven’t the worst firearms legislation. Southern Ireland is very restrictive, particularly with regards to handguns (that includes Blackpowder). And I can take my centrefire rifles across border into South to hunt in Wicklow on a firearms europass. Though that might not be possible shortly when we leave E.U.

Welcome! Maybe you could share some of your guns (pics) with us. Do you hunt, target shoot, or both? Unfortunately, our USA has been taken over and we are headed in the direction of very restrictive gun laws here as well. The UK wants to leave the EU, and the USA wants to enter, lol! Enjoy the smoke poles!

Welcome to the forum. Yes, many countries are run by tyrants and despotic governments. Have been since the beginning of time. One thing they can’t abide is a armed populace to challenge their “natural” right to govern. Even in America, these traitors exist in large numbers. Keep up the good fight, organize and practice marksmanship and field craft. ML is a great, fun way to do so. Always remember, “give me liberty, or I’ll make you regret it”.

my most favorite movie of all time is the quite man with john wayne. it is about your country and the irish humor in it is unsurpassed. ive met many a irishmen in my living around my country. they work hard, drink hard and always have a smile on their face. they never have to walk up to the paymaster backwards, they always give a good days work for a days pay. cant say that for a lot of others ive met. thanks again for joining this group.

Welcome rmn82,
Glad to hear that you have not been disarmed like the rest of the UK. I'm in Arizona where there are few restrictive gun laws. Matter of fact almost anyone but felons and crazy people can own and carry concealed here. We like to say " An armed society is a polite society". Enjoy the forum. By the way what is a Firearms Certificate?

You are most welcome here.

And just to clear up a misconception above, there are lots of Catholics in the North. Actually, it's pretty close to even. (Not raising any kind of political/religious brouhaha, just clarifying facts.)

I have ancestors from both sides (border and religions). All good people. Hope to see you active here.

I'll bet there are more than a few guns stashed in those Green Hills of Ireland!
I'm in Arizona myself and to disagree a bit with feamir, felons and crazy people here do own and carry guns. They are the ones doing the homicides. The thing is that we law abiding folks can carry them as well!

Here is a project I am fettling at moment. It’s one of the ‘Indian’ LLP Besses from Loyalist Arms. I didn’t like the stock colour, found the wood to be too light in colour, this is a darker stain still wet. Little work on the lock too. Found the thread on ‘Indian’ guns to be very interesting. They have to pass proof here at Birmingham Proof house which they do. Ps.. this was meant to be at the bottom of the thread after the reply to all the lovely welcomes but darn it I am useless with technology!

Thanks for all the welcomes guys! Look forward to much reading and making new contacts on the forum. I spent 3 months last summer in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. Totally fell in love with Texas I’ve gotta say.

Grumpa.. you are totally correct it’s very mixed and it is about 50/50 these days. And the same can be said in a lot of families. My family is very mixed and has been all throughout the troubles which made the whole conflict to us seem even more futile!
