Hello everybody. :hatsoff: I have been watching this site for some time but have yet to contribute. I am new to muzzle loading and recently bought a Pedersoli Mortimer flintlock shotgun which I enjoy very much. As yet I haven't hit anything but I just love pulling the trigger!
There is a wealth of information here and I look forward to contributing my 2c from time to time.
Incidently, the Croppies was the name given to the rebels of the 1798 rebellion in Ireland. They were trying to promote the ideals of the French Revolution but alas, failed. Croppies = short hair.

Can't hit anything? Did you put the powder down the barrel? :rotf:
Welcome to the best forum on the planet. You will find a wealth of great info, humor and enjoyment here. Won't find much seafoid here. Chime in anytime we were all newbees at one time.

Thanks for all your welcomes. I hail from the foot of Vinegar Hill in Enniscorthy in the county Wexford. I should add that while I love to pull the trigger, I am actually shooting at paper at various distances trying to get the best patterns with different wads and homemade cups.

in your study of your countrys history did you ever run accross anything about the darbey, sseems they were put on a boat against there will and told that if they came to ireland it was the rope for them ,horse thievs and scroundrels the lot, 100 years later i married one of them . now i can tell you that underneath the red copper hair and soft green eyes lives a terror to deal with if crossed, my question to you sir is all irish women have tempers like my robin.

Croppy Boy,
Is she alive? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
snake-eyes :v
My dad's folks came from County Wexford in the late 1800's. My moms came from Belfast a bit later. Dad was a protestant and mom was catholic.
They met in the 30s and married. Raised four kids
catholic and dad died converted about 10 years
before he died.

Top o' the morning to ya' pard. Glad to have ya' aboard. I'm half Irish on my fathers side. My birth name is Freels which comes from O'Friels, a grand old Irish name if I say so myself. I'm also a quarter Cezch and a quarter Yugoslavian but my Irish side rules more then the others. I've traced my roots back to Co.Donegal in Ulster N.Ireland and it's something that I'm very proud of. I'm sure you'll enjoy the board, lots of good info here on all things Traditional.

Erin go Brah :v

welcome Croppy Boy..I love Ireland it's the reason I have a passport and the only country other then the good old USA you'll ever find this old shooter in

A Croppy boy! Cead mille failte!!! Sorry, I can't put the accents on the letters - I am using a Japanese keyboard here in p$ssing down raining Tokyo.

Isn't it grand that Irishmen can once again have any firearm they want? About time too.

And for those unfortunate folk cursed with the inability to speak in God's own tongue -

A hundred thousand welcomes to you!

Welcome Croppy Boy. It's interesting to have people on the forum from other countries. Good to know that B/P shooting is alive and well all over the world. GW

Welcome to you Croppy Boy!
Here's a funny story...A few years ago I was out in the Gulf Stream fishing for Swordfish and tuna.I was on one of my Late night Wheel watches so I used to kill time by drinking Pepsi pop and dropping a note in the empty bottle and throwing it over.Once recieved a letter from a guy that picked up one of my notes on a beach in Ireland. We exchanged a couple of letters.Without looking at the envelope to see his adress I think it was Eire,Ireland.Does that ring a bell?

Hi Halftail,

Eire is one of the old Irish language names for Ireland, the other being Eireann (Erin). If you drop the E off Eire and add land, you get its modern name.

In '97 I drove 785 miles around south east Ireland (on the wrong side of the road :haha: ) I went through your neck of the woods. One of my GG Grandmothers came from County Wexford when she was 5 years old and ended up in West Virginia. I believe her maiden name was Ryan. I enjoyed your country and loved the good food. I never had a bad meal during the whole trip!! Even the little "hole-in-the-wall" type places had good food. The people were very friendly especially in the small towns. I did notice changes starting to happen from the EU influence since my earlier trip in '92. Welcome!
