I'm testing the water in in the realm of muzzleloading. I have plenty of experience with firearms in general, and now that I'm retired a little time on my hands to branch out some. For Christmas, about 30 years ago, after noting my love of the movie Jeremiah Johnson, my wife gave me a CVA .50 caliber "St. Louis Hawken" rifle. Still have not fired it, but this seems to be a good place to read about those who do.

Be careful with muzzleloaders. They caused me about a 15 year lapse in centerfires for hunting at one point.

No, there's no such just thing as "testing the water" in muzzleloading; I was the same not too long ago: you get your toe wet and it's the first step toward total immersion. So, welcome from me in Packer country!!
