Help I have just found locally a Double Barrel Shotgun Need to know the value it is a back action lock all screws are there butt plate is there only thing missing is ram rod ,locks work, triggers work, left nipple is broken, has a small repair (sloppy) on left side of forearm, barrels will slide fore an aft. about 1/16" heavy.Barrels look to be in pretty good shape. On the locks it says GEORGE NEWTON. Would like to know what it may be worth soon if possible.

How do barrels slide forward on a ML shotgun? Is this a break-open cartridge gun? Are the barrels damascus? What gauge?

Ramrods can be replaced, as can the nipple. The general condition of the gun determines its value. You need to take the barrel out of the stock, and look at the markings on the bottom of the barrel. That will give a much better clue as to what you have.

Some of these are just wall-hangers-- in too bad a condition to be restored and shot. Others can be shot. It would help all of us advise you if you can post pictures of the gun.

Hooked breech probably, that the barrels have been taken off of several times. Add bit of dirt in there...

The barrels slide because of wear you know it is an old gun. Can't post pics, can't describe markings store is closed now. Just thought someone may have some info on a George Newton gun.

I have not seen that much wear on a hooked breech gun. On break open guns, yes, but not on a hooked breech gun that was fitted properly to begin with.

YOu would have to weld some of the hook on the breechplug, and then refile and fit the hooks to pull them close to the tang again. That is a lot of work if you don't have machine equipment available to do it.
